Bullants bite JOCs in grand final re-match, Lions triumph over NOBS

St Mary’s snapped a two-game losing streak as they overpowered Oakleigh by 20 points at Ferndale Park. After an even first term, the Saints took control of the match with four goals to one in the second quarter and held onto that lead for the remainder of the match.  Daniel Ryan starred in his first game for the season, kicking seven goals and offering the Saints hope of a replacement for Louis Holmes up forward. Fellow first-gamer Henry Wong (1) and Juan Perriam (1) also contributed heavily for the Saints, while Patrick Ioannidis continued his outstanding form for the Krushers.

A 13-goal to two opening half led Ormond to their fourth consecutive victory, defeating Ivanhoe by 69 points at Ivanhoe Park. Despite four goals each in the second half, the first two quarters split the game apart and the Monders cruised to victory thereafter. Matthew Hine (1) was named best afield for the second time in three weeks, while Lloyd Anrep snagged five goals in his first game of the year for the Monders. Nick Thornely and Bill Jackson impressed for the seventh-placed Hoers. The win allows the Monders to climb to second spot on the ladder.

Therry Penola claimed their second win for the year with a 41-point triumph over Brunswick NOBSPC at John Pascoe Fawkner Reserve. Trailing by six points at quarter time, the Lions piled on 15 goals to seven across Q2 and Q3, opening an unassailable 48-point buffer at the last break. Jarryd Hanlon starred for the Lions with three goals in a BOG display, while Corey Bannister made his return to the line-up with three of his own. Dominic Sullivan top-scored with four goals for the eighth-placed NOBS and Daniel Mott (1) was their most impressive. The Lions climb to sixth despite it being just their second win.

The number one ranked Preston Bullants made light work of St John’s in their grand final re-match, running out 45-point winners at Thomas Carroll Reserve. Meeting for the first time since the Bullants claimed the Division 2 premiership in 2016, it was a tight contest in the first term as the JOCs took a one-point lead into the break. However, it was all Bullants from there as they accelerated for 12 of the next 17 goals. Olsen Clark and Marcello Manteit were outstanding for the Bullants while Liam Sutton kicked four goals. Rohan Scott led admirably for the JOCs with two goals and plenty of disposals as they sit ninth on the Division 1 ladder.

PEGS returned to the winners’ column in emphatic style as they defeated Whitefriars by 69 points at Whitefriars College. 43 scoring shots to 19 showcased the dominance executed by the Bombers, with Trent Skurrie leading the charge with five goals. Cam Livori starred in a BOG performance for the Bombers, while Hewitt Murray (1) fought valiantly for the Friars.
