Hogarth, Two Blues power past Bullants, Unicorns clip Saints

Yarra Old Grammarians made it four wins from their past five outings as they came from behind and edged past Emmaus St Leo’s by 20 points at Doncaster Reserve. Despite an eight-goal haul from Animals’ forward Chris Beluszar, the Bushrangers proved too strong with four goals to one in a dominant final term after trailing by one point at the last break. Daniel Chamberlain continued his hot run of form with a BOG display for the Buishrangers and Simon Yeo top-scored with four goals. Yarra remain two games ahead of fourth place while the Animals sit fifth at 4-4.

Four unanswered goals in the last term capped off a stunning West Brunswick victory, defeating Old Paradians by 64 points at Garvey Oval. The Westies defence was elite and allowed just four goals to the Raiders while piling on 14 of their own. Evan Lloyd starred and was named best afield for the Westies while Bill Irving kicked four goals. 2016 best abnd fairest Marcus Nolan was the only multiple goal kicker for the Raiders who slumped to their fifth loss and ninth spot on the ladder.

Ashley Hogan made a successful return to the MHSOB senior team, booting six goals in his side’s 26-point win over Glen Eira at Melbourne High School. Nine straight goals to 3.3 set the scene in the first term, with the Unicorns unrelenting as they maintained the lead for the remainder of the game. Tom Rendell and James Tran (2) accompanied Hogan as the Unicorn’s best, while Hutchison Medallist Julius Waras Carstensen stood up in the absence of suspended fellow goal kicker Alex Erwin-Ross with a bag of five for the Saints.

Hawthorn AFC edged closer to their first win of 2017 but narrowly missed out against Eltham Collegians, with the Turtles claiming a 19-point win at Rathmines Reserve. The Hawks were within three goals for the first three quarters but couldn’t break through the strong Turtles defence and standout performances from Fraser Cloney (6) and Tim Woods. Dale Mitchell (2) continued his strong form for the Hawks as their most impressive player while Nathan Raiti kicked three goals. It was the Turtles’ third win for the season and they sit eighth, two spots above the Hawks.

40 scoring shots to nine, including 22 goals to four, gave Prahran Assumption a telling 121-point victory over Bulleen Templestowe at Ted Ajani Reserve. The Two Blues were dominant from the outset and Josh Hogarth made the most of the barrage of inside 50s with seven goals. Dan Freeman starred in a BOG performance for the Two Blues, while Jack Matherson chipped in with four. Brodie McLaughlin fought hard for the Bullants on a tough day as they now sit seventh, six spots below the ladder-leading Two Blues.
