History made as Pirates slay first-ever victim in Premier B

History made as Pirates slay first-ever victim in Premier B

Peninsula will be celebrating tonight after they claimed their first-ever win in Premier B with an historic four-point victory over Monash Blues at Frankston Oval. Trailing by four points at the half, the Pirates kicked five goals to four in a low-scoring match to run out 64-60 winners. Jordan Pomeroy and Nick Fisher (1) starred for the Pirates while Cameron Pither was named best for the Blues. The loss sees the Blues fall to sixth spot on the ladder, while the Pirates remain 10th – not that we think that will matter tonight.

Old Brighton and Old Scotch could not be split at the end of four quarters as they tied on 64 points apiece at Camberwell Sports Ground. The Tonners flew out to a 19-point lead at the first break and continued that form for the ensuing two quarters, leading by 14 at the last break. Led by a four-goal haul from in-form star James Sansom, the Cardinals stormed home with five goals to three to draw the game. Gene van den Broek starred for the Cardinals while Jack Bull kicked two goals. Rising star Alex Mastromanno increased his lead at the top of the Premier B goal kicking leader board with four goals (28) for the Tonners. Hamish Graham was named best in his first game for the year.

Three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter gave Fitzroy a hard-fought 19-point victory against Old Carey at Carey Sports Complex. Trailing by six points at the half, the Roys fought back for a one-point lead going into the last term and ran away with the win from there. Nino Lazzaro continued his stellar form since debuting earlier this year with three goals for the Roys and Ross Borland was named best afield. Andrew Sloan was the best of the Panthers alongside Jordan Ceppi and George Curnow (2). The Roys move from sixth to fifth on the Premier B ladder and the Panthers fall to ninth.

Ajax came from 10 points down at the last break and ran over St Bernard’s to the tune of nine at Gary Smorgon Oval. The Jackas twice trailed by five goals but failed to give in and four goals to one in the final term gave the Jackas their fifth win for the year, with David Fayman’s five goals the difference. ‘The Mailman’ brought up his 600th goal for Ajax in the fourth term after a sensational career in the red, white and black. Jake Lew chipped in with two for the Jacks while Zachary Braun was best on ground. Young gun Edyn Sibbald kicked four goals in a standout performance for the Snow Dogs and Tom Caven led admirably from the front.

Parkdale Vultures were relentless in their quest for a third win as they defeated Mazenod by 50 points at Gerry Green Reserve. Star forward Matt Boland’s five goals led the offence, while the team defence allowed the Nodders just 26 points for the game. Inaccuracy cost the Nodders any chance of hanging in there as they kicked 2.14; including, six behinds in the third term. Ryan O’Leary kicked three for the Vultures and was best afield, while Augustine Patti was the most impressive on a disappointing for the Nodders.
