Wickers’ run continues, Cobras strike in Division 4

A 10-goal haul from Patrick Mahon helped Aquinas to a comprehensive 167-point win over Masala at WJ Turner Reserve. The Bloods had 45 scoring shots to the Tigers’ 12, with Mahon and Liam Whelan (5) the main recipients in front of goal. Sean Ragozzini kicked four and was in the best in just his first game for the Bloods in 2017, while Jesse Butcher (1) also impressed. No results have been submitted by Masala but they sit ninth with seven losses for the year, while the Bloods are second and still one game behind the undefeated Bulls.

Elsternwick made it four wins on the trot as they defeated Parkside by 22 points at Elsternwick Oval (2). The Wickers had 16 scoring shots to two in an explosive first term but could only manage four goals. They straightened up with 7.6 for the remainder of the match but were outscored by the Red Devils who kicked 7.8 during the last three terms. Julian Yeatman kicked five of the Wickers’ 11 goals and Lewis Yeatman (1) was best afield. No results have been submitted for Parkside.

Manningham Cobras proved too strong for St Francis Xavier in their clash at Koonung Reserve, running out 135-point winners. Kane Maghamez, fresh off nine goals on debut, nailed 12 in his second game for the Cobras while Ayden Sukkel and Chris Jolly bagged five each. Daniel Pennant played a lone hand up forward for the X-Men with four goals and Marcus Coe (1) was their best. The Cobras remain third on the ladder with a percentage of 183.3, five spots above the X-Men.

North Brunswick kept their unbeaten streak alive with a hard-fought 14-point win over Eley Park Sharks. The Bulls trailed by 17 points at the half but piled on seven goals to two in the last two terms and ran away with their seventh consecutive win. Patrick Notaro (4) and Jake George (3) kicked seven between them for the Bulls and Jacob Bruhn was best afield. Matt Dyson (2) led the way for the Sharks alongside Tim Miller and Andrew Olson.
