Falcons, Vultures swoop in Division 3

By Nick Armistead · June 4, 2017
Falcons, Vultures swoop in Division 3

UHS-VU’s flag favouritism increased further as they knocked off top four aspirant Canterbury by 27 points at Canterbury Sports Ground. The Vultures kicked six goals to four in the opening term and maintained their lead throughout the day. Mitch Sweeney had a day out in front of goal and snagged six, while Edward Behrens and Nick Devereux (2) impressed. Jason Blakemore kicked three and was best for the Cobras as they fall to fifth spot on the Division 3 ladder.

Power House ended Richmond Central’s hot run and returned to the winners’ list themselves with a 33-point victory at Kevin Bartlett Reserve. The House took a three-goal lead into quarter time and increased it at each break throughout the match. Eddie Nyary pieced together his best game for the year for the House and Nick Brown continued his strong form. Jared Goldsack was a standout for the Snakes and Jake Munro kicked four goals.

Albert Park secured their most impressive victory for the year, defeating La Trobe University by 36 points at home. Six goals to one set the Falcons up for their first win in five rounds, with Justin Mahoney (1) starring in a best-on-ground display. Brodie Matheson (1) and Jack Amies (1) were outstanding for the ninth-placed Falcons, while Matthew Ogle and Michael Burrowes were the only Trobers named in their best.

Point Cook made light work of South Melbourne Districts as they piled on 32 scoring shots to eight in their 89-point victory at Saltwater Reserve. The Dogs had nine individual goal kickers and Jordan Steen top-scored with five. Tristan Furr (2) was sensational for the second consecutive match for the Dogs, while no results have been posted for the Swans. The Bulldogs have now won three and sit in eighth spot on the ladder, two positions higher than the winless Swans.

Swinburne University’s season continues to go from strength to strength and they ran out 43-point winners over Westbourne Grammarians at Westbourne School Ground. Jackson Manning backed up his five from last week with another four goals for the Razorbacks while Tom Hartney (1) was best afield. Michael Culliver (1) fought hard for the Warriors who now fall below Swinburne to fourth spot on the ladder.
