Warriors win local derby, Razorbacks hit back in emphatic fashion

Five goals to two in the final term helped UHS-VU to their 10th straight victory, defeating Richmond Central by 20 points at Kevin Bartlett Reserve. The Vultures led by just four points at the last break before turning it up a gear, with Connor McCutcheon kicking two goals in a BOG display. Mitch Sweeney made it 17 goals from his past four games with another three for the Vultures, while Stewart Beswick and Tom Foott were standouts for the Snakes. The Snakes are one of five teams with a 4-6 record after 10 rounds.

Albert Park proved too strong for South Melbourne Districts as they ran out 68-point winners. The Falcons had 10 individual goal kickers, and seven with multiples, with Stephen Pilgrim, Nicholas Materia and Daniel Ella booting three each. Torren Wright impressed for the Swans alongside three majors from Hamish Robinson. Both sides are ninth and 10th on the ladder, respectively.

20 scoring shots six in the second half led Power House to a 33-point victory over Canterbury at Ross Gregory Oval. With scores ties at 47-47 at half time, the House kicked 8.12 to 3.3 in a dominant second half. Nicholas Nagel was unstoppable in front of goal with nine majors taking his season tally to 44, while Sam Confait collected disposals at will. Thomas Lowden kicked four goals for the fifth-placed Cobras and Scott Fitzgerald was instrumental to their strong first half. The House remain second with just one loss for the year.

Swinburne University returned to the winners’ column in emphatic fashion, disposing of La Trobe University by 98 points at St James Park. Richard Lugg starred with seven goals and was named best afield for the Razorbacks, while Michael Daly and Cameron Ball were exceptional. Ryan McMinn was the best for the Trobers, who have lost three of their past four games.

Westbourne Grammarians narrowly staved off Point Cook in a battle of the local rivals, winning by eight points at Westbourne School. The game was tight throughout the day, with the margin never exceeding eight points at any break. Patrick O’Brien was best afield for the Warriors and Charles Hunter top-scored with four goals. Alex Grigg kicked a goal and was the best of the Bulldogs. Despite being four ladder positions apart, just one game separates the two sides.
