Five unanswered goals in the first term proved the difference in the Premier B top-of-the-table clash between Old Brighton and Old Scotch, with the Tonners running out 20-point winners at Brighton Beach Oval. The Tonners entered the main break 21 points up after the Cardinals kicked two in the second but maintained an arm’s length lead for the remainder of the match. Andrew Dewar was named best afield alongside Tom Fisher for the Tonners, while Alexander Van Ryn and James Sansom starred for the Cardinals. The win gives the Tonners a two-game buffer atop the ladder, while it also ends a five-game winning streak for the second-placed Cardinals. The last time the Cardinals didn’t come away with the points was in Round 8 when these two sides tied.
Parkdale Vultures climbed out of relegation territory and into eighth spot on the ladder after they defeated Mazenod by 38 points at Central Reserve. The Vultures trailed by two goals at the first break but kicked 12 of the ensuing 17 goals with Liam Platt and Matt Boland kicking three each. Charlie Dillon returned from suspension with a best-on-ground performance for the Vultures, while Tom McKenna and Jaydyn Hill continued their outstanding individual form as the best players for the Nodders. The loss forces the Nodders down to seventh spot on the ladder and one position behind the Panthers, while the Vultures overtake the Roys.
Monash Blues continued their push for successive Premier B finals appearances as they proved far too strong for Fitzroy, running out 35-point winners at Frearson Oval. The Blues registered 24 scoring shots to nine and, if not for inaccuracy, 7.17 – 3.6, could have blown the margin out. Matthew Davidson and Jack Wotherspoon starred for the fifth-placed Blues while Julian Turner and Jacob Long fought hard for the Roys. The loss put the Roys in the relegation zone as they sit ninth below Parkdale.
Ajax retained fourth spot on the Premier B ladder with a comprehensive 61-point victory over Peninsula at Gary Smorgon Oval. Trailing by 19 points at the first break, the Jackas kicked four unanswered in the second term before holding the Pirates to just one when they had the wind advantage in the third. Seven unanswered in the fourth solidified the win for the Jackas as Jake Lew ran riot with seven goals for the day. Toby Lipton and Ward Williams did the bulk of the damage for the Jackas across the four quarters while Jordan Pomeroy continued his outstanding form for the Pirates despite the loss.
Old Carey secured their fourth consecutive win and climbed to sixth spot on the ladder after they defeated St Bernard’s by six points at the Snake Pit. Trailing by 18 points at the last break, the Panthers nailed five goals to one in the fourth as Jason Ashby and Jarrod Reid led the charge with three each for the day. Cameron Jones starred in a best-on-ground display for the Panthers, while Adam Bentick was a standout for the Snow Dogs. The home side will rue inaccurate kicking as they had nine more scoring shots than Carey but failed to convert their chances with 7.20 to 10.8. The Snow Dogs sit securely in third, while the Panthers remain just one game behind fourth and fifth.
