OM’s upset Xavs in Tom Paule’s 150th, De La escape against T’s

OM’s upset Xavs in Tom Paule’s 150th, De La escape against T’s

De La Salle came from 22 points down at the half time break and registered a crucial five-point victory over Old Trinity at Waverley Oval. The fourth-placed De La were slow out of the blocks with five goals to nine in the first half as the T’s assumed control early in the match. However, eight goals to three in the second half sealed the stunning victory for De La with Tom Humphrey starring and earning BOG honours. Dimitri Fasoulis kicked four goals in his first match in the seniors this year, while two-time Woodrow Medallist Jake Williams returned for his first game in almost two months. Brendan Iezzi and Harry Tinney starred for the T’s while Luther Juric and Anthony Scott snagged two goals apiece. De La now move a game and a half clear of Xavs and the T’s climb above the Blacks and into eighth spot on the ladder.

Old Melburnians produced in captain Tom Paule’s 150th match for the club, defeating Old Xaverians by 27 points at Toorak Park. Led by a six-goal haul from Big V hero Al Armstrong and a BOG display from Theo Rosenthal, the OMs kicked five goals to three in the first half before maintaining their lead with a further nine goals to eight in the second half. Josh Freezer and Cam Banfield continued their impressive form for the OMs, while Matt Handley was unstoppable when the ball entered the Xavs 50 as he booted a season-high seven goals. Sam Ralph and Louis Tiernan fought hard for the Xavs but now they fall a game and a half behind De La.

Collegians proved too strong for University Blacks as they ran out 39-point winners at the Uni Oval. Five goals to two in the first half created a buffer which would stand for the remainder of the game, as Kalem Post and Matt Singleton led the Lions’ charge with standout performances. Alexander Croft equalled his season high of four goals for the Lions, while Lochie Dornauf top-scored with three for the Blacks. Joshua Steadman and Christopher Carson were the two best Blackers but they now fall below Trinity and into ninth spot on the ladder.

47 scoring shots to six helped St Kevin’s to a monster 136-point victory over Beaumaris at TH King Oval earlier today. While 11 players shared the spoils on the scoreboard, SKOB were led by Mitch Brown (5) and Jay Schulz (4) in front of goal while Callum Matheson and Michael Di Natale did the damage around the ground. Scott Gower continued his strong form for the Sharks as their best player, but it was not nearly enough as they slumped to their largest loss of the season.

A six-goal haul from Kieran Harper led University Blues to a 31-point victory over St Bedes/Mentone Tigers at Brindisi St Oval. Harper, who has 42 goals for the season, top-scored as the Blues increased a five-point half time lead with seven goals to four in the final two terms. Daniel Batarilo was best afield and he was supported by a dominant Ryan Eade. Chris Richards and Jaryd Robertson stood out for the Tigers while Tim Doherty top-scored with three majors. The Tigers remain a game and a half above the relegation zone in seventh, four spots below the Blues.
