VAFA Media Live Coverage – Saturday, August 15
The race for September is heating up, and we’ve got more high-stakes action for you to enjoy on VAFA Media: It kicks off bright & early from 9.15am Saturday, with
SKOB Saints forward, Sarah Cameron, was named the inaugural Anytime Fitness Rising Star overnight at the VAFA Wilson Women’s Awards Night.
Shortlisted alongside talented young guns Natalie MacDonald (Marcellin), Charlotte Pooley (Collegians), Meg Hermann (Old Carey) and India Tait (Old Brighton), Cameron was judged the winner on the back of a 27-goal and 15-vote season for the ladder-leading Saints.
Cameron, who kicked three goals for the Big V women’s side against AFL Goldfields in July, was named in the best on five occasions and kicked goals in 10 of her 11 games this season.
She bagged five against the Sheagles in Round 4 and has kicked two or more goals another eight times.
What the club said:
“Sarah played football at school in the GSV competition. Her first outside-of-school experience was last year at Glen Iris Gladiators Junior Football Club where she kicked over 70 goals for the season.
Sarah was also named best and fairest for the youth girls competition in Yarra Junior Football League.
She has a similar playing style to Dustin Martin, her ability to break tackles, go forward and kick goals and play in the midfield and make an impact is the reason why she has the similar playing style of the Richmond Brownlow Medal fancy.
Sarah is known to be a very loud and vocal individual around the club and especially at training. During training you can hear her booming voice over the oval.”
