Vultures claim important win, Blues take outright fourth

Monash Blues are in the box seat to secure a Premer B finals berth after they went a game clear of Ajax and Mazenod following their 56-point win over Peninsula at Frearson Oval. 32 scoring shots to 16 gives an indication of the Blues’ dominance as they built upon their lead at every break throughout the day. Tom Vaughan top-scored with four goals in his first senior outing for the Blues this year, while Andrew Young starred in a BOG performance. William Harbinson was the sole multiple goal kicker for the Pirates as they now prepare for one last tilt before returning to Premier C.

Parkdale Vultures climbed out of the relegation zone with an emphatic 48-point victory over Fitzroy at Brunswick St Oval. Leading by five points at the first break, the Vultures piled on 12 of the last 17 goals and claimed their fifth win of the season, elevating them from ninth to eighth and less than 2% higher than the Roys. Brendan McCoy and Thomas Redmond each kicked four goals for the Vultures, while Max Ellis was best for the Roys.

St Bernard’s made it difficult for Ajax to claim a finals berth with one round remaining, defeating them by 11 points in a hard-fought contest at the Snake Pit. The third-placed Snow Dogs trailed by 16 points at the last break before piling on four unanswered goals in the fourth term. Domenic Iermano was best afield for the Snow Dogs with five goals and Connor Riley continued his excellent form. The Jackas, who now sit one game outside the four, were led by Joshua Ludski’s standout performance and Dean Rotenberg’s three goals.

Old Brighton made it two wins in a row as they defeated Old Carey by 40 points at Brighton Beach Oval. Despite kicking an inaccurate 13.20 (5.13 in the second half), the Tonners were far too strong for the Panthers and hit the scoreboard 15 more times than their opponents. Matthew Gadsden was BOG for the Tonners and Harry Hill continued his recent goal kicking form with three, while Sam Crocker led the way with three of his own for the Panthers.

38 scoring shots to 12 helped Old Scotch to a comprehensive 91-point victory over Mazenod at Camberwell Sports Ground. Leading by 34 points at half time, the Cardinals piled on 11 goals to two in a dominant second half of Premier B football. 10 players shared the goals for Scotch as Jordan Clarke led all comers with a bag of four taking his season tally to 33.  Andrew Jelbart was best afield for the Cardinals, while Christopher Campbell fought hard with an impressive performance for the Nodders. The Nodders are now a game and 35% outside the four.
