Former Big V representative and five-time Mazenod premiership player, Dave Murray, has been appointed Big V senior coach for the 2017 VAFA Ireland Tour next month.
Murray has vast experience in the coaching world and led both Mazenod and St Kevin’s to flags while at the helm. He has also worked with Carlton, Collingwood and Hawthorn as High Performance Manager.
More recently, Murray was assistant to Stu Powell during the Big V’s record-breaking 82-point victory against AFL Victoria Country at Frankston Oval in July.
Murray says his objectives for this year’s tour are to reward the effort of players and represent the VAFA and all of our clubs with pride, to assist players in the forging of life-long friendships and to galvanise as a collective while leading a team who is incredibly hard to beat.
“More importantly, I look forward to coaching a group of young men who represent and uphold the values of the VAFA and embrace this incredible opportunity to experience all that Ireland and the VAFA have to offer,” he says.
25 players will represent the Big V against three Irish County sides and AFL Europe in London; including, Big V skipper George Burbury, Sam Hibbins, Corey Cassidy, Alex Mastromanno and Lochie Dornauf.
The Big V touring party will leave on October 1 for two weeks.
