From formation to A-Grade: Old Geelong Women’s makes history
Old Geelong Football Club opened its 2025 season in historic fashion, with its women’s side marking their first year in the William Buck Premier competition with two wins straight out
Prahran Assumption completed the double at Sportscover Arena today, claiming the Division 2 Seniors and Reserves premierships against West Brunswick.
Kicking with the breeze in the first term, the Two Blues nailed six unanswered goals and took a 39-point lead into the quarter time break. The Westies managed just one when kicking with the same wind advantage in the second. Fullerton Medallist and Two Blues skipper, James Musster, led his chargers to another three unanswered goals in the third, sealing the game and the A.R Fellows Medal for the best player on the ground. Timothy Maya and Eric Kuret kicked two goals each for the Two Blues while another six players shared singles. Craig Mitchell continued his outstanding recent form for the Westies and helped them to a run of five goals to one in the last quarter, but it was to no avail as the Two Blues sealed it with a late Josh Hogarth major. Evan Lloyd and Alexander Schipp impressed for the Westies as they make the trek up to Division 1 in 2018. The Two Blues capped off a dominant season where they lost just two games and averaged 111 points per game.
A.R. Fellows Medal: James Musster (Prahran Assumption)
Earlier in the day, the Two Blues kickstarted proceedings with a hard-fought eight-point victory over West Brunswick in the reserves. Leading by eight points at half time, both sides added just two goals each for the remainder of the match in a low-scoring affair, 36-28. Second-year player, Ben Leske, starred and was deservedly named best afield for the Two Blues while Thomas Marmo top-scored with three goals. Jayden Malseed and Jacob Hyslop were the best of the Westies, with Hyslop kicking two majors.
