Old Geelong Football Club opened its 2025 season in historic fashion, with its women’s side marking their first year in the William Buck Premier competition with two wins straight out
Nominations are now open for the first-ever VAFA Media Awards which will be presented at the VAFA AGM Awards Dinner on Monday 4 December at the MCG.
In a bid to acknowledge the vast contribution of club media volunteers, the awards will recognise those who excelled across a variety of media platforms throughout the 2017 VAFA season.
Club photographers, writers and digital media coordinators may nominate themselves or can be nominated by their club in the following categories:
Applicants are asked to clearly indicate the media award section for which they wish to be considered and entries are to be submitted via email to [email protected]

Best Photograph (Action)
Judges will consider visual impact, technical superiority, creativity and ability to capture a single moment. Entry to be submitted with a high-resolution colour file of the photograph (JPEG).
Best Photograph (Character of the Game)
Judges will consider visual impact, technical superiority, of images that showcase the unique character, people or culture of the VAFA and its clubs. Entry to be submitted with a high-resolution colour file of the photograph (JPEG).
Best Online News/Feature Story
Feature: Nominations to be a feature piece on your club, a player, issue or personality in the VAFA. Judges will be looking for writing excellence, storytelling ability and general impact. A copy of the article as a full-page tear sheet is to be submitted (ORIGINAL – Scanned preferable in PDF format).

Best Use of Digital Media
Judges will be looking for dynamic use of the online medium, originality, innovation, presentation, insight, and participation by audience. Entries can be submitted by MP4 file or web addresses and a description of activity and highlights is required.
