There’s been a change at the helm in Kew with Michael Shmerling announced as the Bears’ new senior coach for 2018.
Shmerling was line coach for the Box Hill Hawks’ Development Squad in 2016 and 2017 after a playing career of 86 matches at Ajax.
He will lead the Bears alongside new assistant coach, Tim Orchard, as the club looks to bounce back into Premier C after suffering relegation on the back of three wins this year.

“Kew FC is extremely excited to announce the signing of our new senior coach for season 2018 and beyond, Michael Shmerling.
After an extensive search and interview process, the board deemed Michael was by far the best man for the job.
Michael has spent the last two seasons with the Box Hill Hawks as a line coach for the development squad helping to guide them to a premiership in 2016. There, he was able to gain valuable VFL and even AFL experience, with exposure to the methods and tactics of the Hawthorn senior coaching panel.
Michael also boasts experience in the VAFA, having spent several seasons at AJAX FC as well as Albert Park FC, both at junior and senior levels.
After a great first training session run by new assistant coach, Timothy Orchard, Michael will run training every Monday and Wednesday night from 6pm at Willsmere Park, Kew, starting this coming Monday the 13th.
Make sure you get down to welcome the newest member of the Bear Cave, as we commence the building for a massive season in 2018.”
