The VAFA is pleased to announce both the senior men’s and women’s representative Big V sides will travel to Adelaide to take on the South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL) at Aldi Arena on 9 June.
In a first for the VAFA, our senior women’s team will showcase their talent interstate as they try and make it two from two after defeating AFL Goldfields by 49 points in their debut match in North Ballarat last year.
VAFA Women’s Football Development Manager, Shona MacInnes, said after the success of last year’s inaugural representative match, it will be great to see our women wearing the iconic blue & white V against a representative SAAFL side.
“One of the strengths of our Association is that we can offer these ground-breaking opportunities to our players,” she said.
“It will be particularly special this year, given it will be the first time we will have co-involvement of both men and women in our representative program.
“It’s fantastic that they will travel to Adelaide together to support each other.”
Redemption will be at the forefront of the senior men’s side’s minds after they lost to the SAAFL by 17 points at Trevor Barker Oval in 2016.
However, the last time these two sides met in South Australia, it was the Big V who proved too strong for the SAAFL as they ran out 62-point winners.
The VAFA will be looking to continue their recent representative form after claiming a record-breaking 82-point victory over AFL Victoria Country last July.
