Two Blues hunting two flags

The final fixture for the 2018 VAFA Wilson Women’s competition has been released and we are set for a sensational opening round of Division 1 action.
After claiming the Development Division 4 flag in 2017, Hawthorn will face Oakleigh at Rathmines Reserves. The Hawks claimed the minor premiership on the back of nine wins through the home and away fixture, before defeating SKOB Saints (2) by 17 points in the decider. Conversely, it was a mixed bag for the Krushers as they won five of their Development Division 2 outings and finished in sixth spot on the ladder.
De La Salle narrowly missed finals on percentage and will kick-off their 2018 campaign with a home game against St Bedes/Mentone Tigers. The Tigers have added a new coach and depth to their squad since finishing seventh in Development Division 2 last year.
Swinburne Uni will host the Shane Zantuck-led South Melbourne Districts at St James Park. These two sides featured in finals last year, with both going down to SKOB Saints in the first two weeks.
Just one win and 11% separated UHS-VU and Ivanhoe in fourth and fifth spot on the Development Division 2 ladder last year, and the two sides will reignite rivalries once again at Brens Oval. They could barely be split throughout the year and were 1-1 in the head-to-head battle.
