A host of new talent helped Beaumaris claim Sunday’s Lightning Premiership over the weekend with a six-point win over Old Ivanhoe at Keysborough Playing Fields.
The Sharks trailed for most of the match but goals to Thea Brown and Alana Gadsby gave them the ascendancy in the second half.
Skipper, Simone Payton, was unstoppable through the midfield for the Sharks and racked up clearances at will, while Nadia Eldred was the standout on the day with six goals.
Sarah Foley impressed across the half forward flank for Old Ivanhoe, registering their sole major in the final, while Jacqueline Mitchelhill displayed dominance through the midfield and will be one to watch in 2018.
The Old Ivanhoe side impressed from the outset of the day, winning all three matches and finishing second on the ladder with a percentage of more than 5000. Their quick hands out of congestion were a highlight and will bode well heading into Division 2 this year.
Old Geelong (2) were the other undefeated outfit after an excellent round robin campaign but missed the finals on percentage.
Marcellin and UHS-VU finished with two wins from their three games, while Caulfield (2), Old Carey (2), Old Camberwell (2), De La Salle, Bulleen Templestowe, Mazenod (2) and Westbourne Grammarians filled out the remaining spots on the ladder.
The VAFA congratulates Beaumaris on their victory and thanks all participants for their involvement over the past two days.
