The Victorian Amateur Football Association is pleased to announced John Kanis has been reappointed as senior coach of the women’s Big V representative side ahead of our June 9 clash against the Adelaide Footy League.
Kanis, who created history as the inaugural coach last year, oversaw an outstanding 49-point victory against AFL Goldfields at Mars Stadium in Ballarat.
Speaking to VAFA Media, Kanis said he was honoured to receive a second year at the helm and looks forward to improving upon the 2017 campaign.
“Whilst our result last year was pleasing, we learnt a lot and there are certainly things we can put in place to ensure we improve on that performance,” he said.
“Last year was a thrill for all involved and once again we will be aiming to create a great representative football culture for women’s Big V footy.”
Kanis is currently compiling his coaching panel and will be scouting women’s matches over the coming weeks.
Clubs will have the opportunity to nominate their own players for possible selection and forms will be available on the VAFA Portal next week.
The VAFA looks forward to the momentous Queen’s Birthday weekend of Big V action in South Australia with the women playing alongside the men for the first time in the history of our Association.
