Tonners overcome Tigers, De La hit the board

Six unanswered goals in the fourth term handed Old Brighton a thrilling eight-point victory over St Bedes/Mentone Tigers at Brindisi St Oval. The reigning Premier B champs trailing the Tigers at every break throughout the day, but stormed home with 44 points to three in the final term. Tom Fisher and Ben Jakobi led the charge for the Tonners with outstanding individual performances, while Harry Hill was their only multiple goal scorer. It’s the second week in a row the Tigers have fallen away in the fourth quarter after holding significant leads. Nathan Smith starred with four goals and a BOG display while Pat Tyquin contributed two.

Two goals in the final four minutes of the match helped De La Salle secure their first victory of 2018, defeating Old Xaverians by 10 points at Waverly Oval. With just two points separating the sides at three quarter time, the home side rode the momentum of their passionate fans in the dying stages with Jason Tutt and Antony Forato leading the way yet again. Ed Clinch nailed two goals while eight others kicked one each. Luke Bisset was named best for the Xavs who are yet to win a game after the first two rounds of the season.

St Kevin’s OB proved far too strong for Old Melburnians as they ran out 64-point winners at Flack Park. SKOB kicked eight goals to one in the first three quarters and failed to let up as they piled on another four to one to close out the match. Cal Matheson and Sam Critchley were named best afield for SKOB while Billy Kanakis and Jay Schulz kicked two goals each. Angus Clarke and Al Armstrong kicked one each as the sole goal scorers for Oms as they languish in ninth spot on the ladder with two losses and a percentage of 59.20%.

Seven goals to one in the final term allowed Collegians to claim their second consecutive comprehensive win to start 2018, running out 46-point winners over University Blues at Uni Oval. Just six points separated the two sides at the final break, but George Burbury’s three fourth-quarter goals allowed the Lions to run away with it. Will Johnson top-scored for the second straight week with four majors, while Viv Michie was best afield. Patrick Hayes and Connor Lappin fought hard for the Blues who fell away in the fourth for the second straight week. They sit at the bottom of the William Buck Premier ladder after playing SKOB and Collegians in the first two rounds. The Lions sit second and less than 5% behind SKOB.

Anthony Scott and Gabe Hamilton starred as Old Trinity claimed their second win in as many weeks with a 13-point victory over Old Scotch at Camberwell Sports Ground. A five-goal to two opening half helped set up the win for the T’s as the Cardinals failed to capitalise on opportunities in front of goal with nine behinds from their first 11 scoring shots. Seb Nicolosi, Sam Joyce and Liam Whelan kicked two goals each for the T’s, while James Sansom (3) and Nick Jamieson were the Cardinals’ best.
