The VAFA congratulates De La Salle young gun, Liam Murphy, after he was named the Round 2 Grill’d Rising Star for his standout performance in De La’s 10-point win over Old Xaverians.
What the club said:
“The youngest of the four footballing brothers who attended De La Salle College (Tom who played over 100 AFL games with Hawthorn and Gold Coast, Xavier who had many fine seasons at Box Hill Hawks and in the VAFA and Ed who was a DLS U19 premiership skipper and key senior defender).
Liam is a product of Murrumbeena Juniors where he won countless B&F’s and other awards. He joined the club in 2016, the same year he played a prominent role in the TAC cup premiership with Sandringham Dragons. He made his senior debut in round 12 of 2017, immediately earning the respect of his team mates for his skill and fearless approach to game. His impact was such that he was clear choice for the ‘Best First Year’ player award.
Despite still being eligible for the U19 competition, Liam is now in his second year of senior football. He is already part of the senior leadership group and is touted as a future captain of the club. An impressive young man who is immensely popular around the club, Liam has a mix of Jack Ziebell’s hardness and Dylan Shiel’s class.”
