The VAFA congratulates Marcellin midfielder & 2017 William Buck Premier Grand Final BOG medallist, Laura Robertson, who has been named the Round 2 Anytime Fitness Rising Star for her best-on-ground performance during the Sheagles’ 57-point win over Melbourne University on Saturday.
What the club said:
“Laura enjoyed playing football at primary school where her friends convinced her (along with her mother and Sheagles Team Manager Sue) to join the under 10 boys team at Bulleen Templestowe. Laura hasn’t looked back, and is now in her 10th season of football, being the first girl to play 150 games at her junior club. Laura joined older sister Georgina at Marcellin in the women’s inaugural season in 2017 where older brother James was already a fixture in the senior team for the Marcellin Eagles.
Laura plays like Dustin Martin in that she is a tough inside midfielder that can push forward to kick goals when required. Laura possesses precision disposal, is dangerous in the air and has the amazing ability to brush off tackles with ease.
Laura is a quiet achiever around the club, going about her business without too much fanfare despite her abilities. Laura had the distinction of being awarded the best on ground medal for her performance in the 2017 VAFA Premier Women’s grand final last season where the Sheagles won the inaugural premiership.
Congratulations Laura Robertson on being the VAFA Women’s Rising Star for Round 2.”
