Snow Dogs star returns in runaway win, Fields upset Sharks

Caulfield Grammarians continued their outstanding vein of form with a third straight win, this week defeating Beaumaris by 32 points at Banksia Reserve. Nine goals to five set the scene for the Fields before they outscored their opponents again in the second half with four goals to two. Tim Nixon was best afield for Caulfield, while Will Osborn and Declan Reilly kicked two each. Anthony Carroll and Rob Cathcart led the way for the Sharks who had just two less scoring shots across the day but wen 2.8 from their last 10. The Fields now join the Sharks and St Bernard’s on three wins and in fifth spot on the ladder, one below the Beaumaris.

University Blacks were relentless in their quest for four straight wins as they dismantled Monash Blues by 154 points at Uni Oval. Nine unanswered goals in the first term paved the way for the onslaught, with the Blues kicking their first and only goal of the match in the last quarter. Lachlan Huntington backed up his seven goals against Ajax with a bag of six for the Blacks and took his season tally to 21 at the top of the goal kicking leader board. John Vrodos bagged five in a BOG display, while Joel Beasley chipped in with three. Joe Harrison and Nick Petering fought bravely for the Blues as they suffered their fourth straight loss and now hold a percentage of 21.71%. Conversely, the Blacks now sit on top of the ladder after displacing Carey on percentage.

Another seven goals from Kristian Jaksch helped Old Carey continue their unbeaten run to start the year, defeating Mazenod by 93 points at Carey Sports Complex. It was the second week in a row Jaksch bagged seven as the Panthers piled on 38 scoring shots to 10. Cameron Wallace and Marc Lock each kicked three goals for the Panthers, while Will Nichols was named best afield. Christian Poretti continued his stellar form for the Nodders as did teammate Tom McKenna. Despite the significant victory, the Panthers slipped down into second spot on the ladder below Blacks, while the Nodders are seventh with one win.

Three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter helped Parkdale Vultures to their first win of the season as they ran over Old Haileybury by 11 points at Princes Park. Trailing by seven points at three quarter time, the Vultures caught fire in the last with Michael Graham and Zac Straker leading the way. Liam Marshall, Charlie Dillon and Dylan Glascott each kicked two goals for the Vultures, while Durras Seccull was the sole multiple goal kicker for the Bloods. James Paul was particularly outstanding for the second week in a row and Peter Shakallis impressed. The result means the Vultures jump one spot above the Bloods and into eighth spot on the ladder.

Chad Jones was at his most dominant in St Bernard’s Round 4 clash against Ajax, booting nine goals en route to his side’s 98-point victory at St Bernard’s College. Leading by 21 points at half time, the Snow Dogs piled on 15 goals to three in a dominant second half. Jack McNamara and Michael Caven joined Jones with three each, while the highlight was the return of Big V representative Tom Sullivan for his first game since 2016 when he gave up football to focus on running. James Fisher kicked two goals for Ajax for the second week in a row and Asher Burstin was their best player. The Jackas have now lost three on the trot and sit in sixth spot on the ladder while the Snow Dogs worked their way into third.
