St Mary’s Salesian secured their first-ever win in Premier C with a 42-point victory over Peninsula at Ferndale Park. Six goals from both Louis Holmes and Manny Dolan helped the Saints increase a 12-point quarter time lead with 13 of the last 21 goals. Charlie Angley was outstanding and joined Dolan and Holmes as the Saints’ best, while Sam Harrison booted four for the Pirates alongside a strong performance from skipper, Sam Glenn. The Saints now move into ninth spot on the ladder while the Pirates are sixth but with just one win for the year.
Nine goals to three in the second half helped Fitzroy to their fourth straight win under new coach Luke Mahoney as they defeated Old Ivanhoe by 44 points at Chelsworth Park. GT Moore Medallist, Rory Angiolella, led the charge for the Roys as they continued their second half dominance from previous weeks. Nino Lazzaro and Ted Clayton kicked three goals each, while Max Ellis continued his own outstanding form in his 150th. Nick Reeves-Smyth was a standout for Old Ivanhoe as they slumped to their third consecutive loss and seventh spot on the ladder. The Roys remain second behind the CYs.
Old Geelong bounced back from last week’s loss to Fitzroy with a 19-point come-from-behind victory over Old Camberwell at Como Park. Trailing by seven points at three quarter time, the Ogs kicked five unanswered goals in the fourth, with big man Jock Grimshaw leading the charge and adding to his five goals for the day. Edward Long was a standout for Ogs, while Nicholas Adamson kicked three for the Wellers. The win elevates Ogs back into third spot on the Premier C ladder, while the Wellers sit 10th.
PEGS and Old Mentonians played out a classic at Keysborough Playing Fields, with the Bombers edging out the Panthers by just four points. The lead never exceeded five points at any break in play as both sides went goal for goal until the final siren. Adrian Romanyk returned to form in front of goal with six of the Bombers’ 11 majors, while David Fahey continued his outstanding form with a BOG performance. Alexander Cross starred for the Pantehrs with four goals and teammate Massey Parker impressed. It was a much-needed win for PEGS after losing two on the trot as they now sit 2-2 and in fifth spot on the ladder, while the Panthers are eighth with a 1-3 record.
Williamstown CYMS’ unbeaten run at the top of the Premier C table continued as they defeated Marcellin by 50 points at Marcellin College.
