78 VAFA Wilson women’s players have been named in the initial Big V squad prior to our June 9 clash against the Adelaide Footy League in South Australia.
Melbourne University WFC boast the highest number of selections with eight; including 2017 representative, Mietta McDonald alongside seven new faces.
Reigning William Buck Premier champions Marcellin have six players in the mix while SKOB Saints are next with five.
With the women’s representative program still in it’s infancy, nominations were called for from all the clubs across all the sections of the women’s competition.
To finalise the squad, the selection committee took into account a number of criteria including information provided by the club nominations, match scouts, current form, previous Big V selection and player eligibility.
The squad will be cut significantly after the second training session but we believe giving as many women as possible the opportunity to be considered and to learn from the experience important for our competition and for our Representative Program going forward.
Congratulations to all the players selected. Club secretaries and players will receive an email shortly with training and match details.
