Demons down Wickers, X-Men return with a bang

Box Hill North returned to the winners’ column and ended a four-game losing streak as they defeated Elsternwick by 11 points at Elgar Park. The Demons led by just five points at the last break but kicked away with four goals to two in the fourth. Eamon Stewart booted four goals for the Demons while teammate Stephen Keenan was named BOG. The Wickers, who suffered their fourth loss from six games, were led well by Julian Yeatman’s four goals and Lachlan Lloyd who has now been named in the best four weeks in a row.

Mt Lilydale kept in touch with he top four via a comprehensive 90-point victory over Masala. Four unanswered goals in the first term set the scene for the Rams as they went on to post 35 scoring shots to 10. Aaron Potter’s hot form continued in the best-on-ground display for the Rams, while Daniel Perry backed up the seven goals he kicked last week with a bag of five. Sam Freeman and Dale Gibb fought valiantly for the Tigers as they search for their first win of the season. The Rams (5th) now draw level at 3-3 with Parkside in fourth.

North Brunswick’s rein at the top of the Division 4 ladder will continue for at least one more week after they defeated Parkside by 62 points at Pitcher Park. Five unanswered goals in the first term gave the Bulls a 37-point lead at the first break and, despite being outscored two goals to one in the second, built upon their lead in the second half. Jake George booted five goals for the Bulls and took his season tally to 16 from three games while Simon Mair dominated in a BOG display. Jacob Heritage and young Marco Creek impressed for the fourth-placed Red Devils.

St Francis Xavier put last week’s one-point loss to South Melbourne Districts behind them as they dismantled South Mornington to the tune of 91 points at St Francis Xavier College. Leading by 33 points at the last break, the X-Men finished off strongly with nine unanswered goals. Harrison Coe was the star of the show with eight majors while Daniel Chin responded well to his front cover shot on this week’s Amateur Footballer with a best-on-ground performance. Travis French booted four of the Tigers’ seven goals alongside a strong performance from James Renwick. The X-Men sit third on the ladder but with the highest percentage, while the Tigers are ninth.

South Melbourne Districts don’t look like losing at present, this week defeating Eley Park Sharks by 56 points at Whitehorse Reserve. The Swans kicked five goals to one in the opening term and held the Sharks at an arm’s length for the remainder of the match. Rory Kennedy starred for the swans and was named best afield while Toby Parish kicked four goals in his first senior match this season. Terrence Dingeldei impressed for the Sharks who are seventh on the Division 4 ladder, five spots below the second-placed Swans.
