Falcons deliver first win, Gryphons go 6 & 0

Hawthorn AFC launched into third spot on the Division 3 ladder following their 58-point victory over Richmond Central at Rathmines Reserve. Leading by just three points at the main break, the Hawks exploded in the second half with 10 goals to two, making it 40 scoring shots to 22 for the day. Tom Bevan was named best in a field of dominant individual performances, while Richard Ogge booted four goals and took his season tally to 23 from six games. Stewart Beswick was the best for the Snakes as they fall to fourth on the ladder, 13% below the Hawks.

13 goals to three in the second half allowed Canterbury to bounce back from last week’s loss, defeating Aquinas by 69 points at Canterbury Sports Ground. The Cobras trailed by 13 points at quarter time and levelled scores 57 apiece at the main break, before piling them on in a dominant second half. Martin Astbury led all Cobras in front of goal with a bag of five, while Jake Rowe netted four. Ash Naulty was unstoppable from a Bloods point of view with six majors alongside a standout performance from Lachlan Naulty. The Cobras remain second on the ladder with just the one loss which is six spots above the Bloods.

Glen Eira maintained their unbeaten run in 2018, this week defeating a gallant Manningham Cobras by 19 points at Packer Reserve. Leading by five points at half time, the Gryphons booted six unanswered goals in the third before the Cobras came back slightly with three straight in the fourth. Chris Higgins starred for the Gryphons in a BOG display, while Daniel Entwistle (3) was one of four multiple goal scorers. Michael Muller nailed four goals for the second time in three rounds for the Cobras while Ayden Sukkel’s elite form continued. The Cobras are proving a handful for most sides in 2018 and sit fifth on the ladder at 3-3.

Despite kicking 17 behinds from their first 20 scoring shots, Swinburne University rolled past Westbourne Grammarians by 18 points for their third win of the year. The Razorbacks led at every change and straightened up in front of goal in the second half with 6.5. Tim Rogers was outstanding for the Warriors and was named their best player alongside an in-form Patrick O’Brien and skipper Michael Culliver. No information had been submitted for Swinburne at time of publication. The Razorbacks are sixth on the ladder, one spot above the Warriors.

Albert Park secured their first win of 2018 as they defeated La Trobe University by 30 points. The Falcons shot out to an 11-point lead at the first break and gradually built on it as the game progressed. Adrian Snowden dominated for the Falcons in a BOG performance, while Nicholas Hornstein top-scored with three goals. Sebastian Nelson and Bradley Fendyk continued their strong form for the Trobers who sit in 10^th and one spot below the Falcons.
