MCC produce goal-fest, Bullants team to beat

The MCC Football Club has produced the biggest win of the season, thrashing South Melbourne Districts by 107 points at Beaumaris Secondary College in Round 6 of the Division 3 competition. MCC put on a goal kicking master class, finishing the game with 16 goals from eight individual scorers. Holly Bailey kicked her first goal of the season before top scoring for MCC with four majors. Jamie Bond and Alexandra Clayton were equally as damaging with three goals, with Clayton currently leading the overall division tally with 15 goals, while Hannah Apeness was judged best afield for the winners. Alix Kearney kicked South’s lone goal in the third term, with Gemma Reynolds the best on a bad day. MCC remains in third with an increased percentage of 201.76 and sits two wins atop of fourth, while South Melbourne remains winless at the bottom of the table.

Though notching an imposing 54-point win over Westbourne Grammarians at Ross Gregory Oval, Power House would be left thinking ‘what-if,‘ with inaccuracy in front of goal sorely costing the Power an even bigger scalp. The victors failed to convert early chances down forward, kicking 0.7 before the first break, while concluding the match 6.20-(56). But it was the Powers’ defensive mindset that impressed the most as they kept the Warriors goalless for the match. Ashley Myles won best on ground honours, while Stephanie Bell and Sarah Dash top scored with two goals apiece. Westbourne’s Caitlyn Snow was the best of the visitors for a second week in a row. Power House’s win keeps them firmly in second, a win behind the Bullants, while Westbourne drops into seventh.

Yarra Old Grammarians have moved into the Top 4 after sealing a 40-point win over Emmaus St Leos at Doncaster Reserve on Saturday. Yarra kept Emmaus scoreless in the first two quarters, but failed to step on the accelerator themselves, converting 3.12 for the half. Emmaus were desperate to get back into the game as they returned for the second half, but they too failed to take opportunities when they came, kicking six points in the third term. Brooke Bishop finally goaled for Emmaus in the last quarter, but it was too late to make a dent in Yarra’s match winning lead. After a week away, Alyssia Blewonski returned to kick three goals for the victors, while Georgia Hocking notched her first best-on-ground performance in only her second game. Yarra, rebounding from a disappointing win last week, moves up three places into fourth, as Emmaus St Leos drops down to sixth.

Prahan Assumption has slumped to its fourth loss in a row as the Preston Bullants dominated the visitors by 47 points at W.R Ruthven Reserve. The Bullants got the early start and leading by six goals at half time, kept control of the game by extending the lead even more before the final siren. Melissa Halton was dangerous for the Bullants as she booted five goals in a best-on-ground performance, as Kayla Del Monte proved handy with three majors and Soma Griffen looked exciting in her first game this season. Sarah Guest kicked all of Prahan’s six goals and teammate Emily Hastie was back at her best in an interrupted season thus far. The Bullants have won five in a row, and remain at the top of the table, while Prahan remains steady in fifth.
