Blues draw Blood as Panthers re-take 2nd

Monash Blues joined three other teams on 12 premiership points after they defeated Old Haileybury by 15 points at Princes Park, Caulfield. Trailing by three points at quarter time, the Blues kicked 11 goals to four over Q2 and Q3 before the Bloods came home in a canter, kicking five goals to one in the fourth. While no results had been submitted for the victorious Blues by the time of publication, Big V B-D4 star James Paul led the way for the Bloods with a standout performance. The Blues remain 10th and three spots below the Bloods, but the bottom four sides each have three wins for the year.

St Bernard’s enjoyed their trip to Gerry Green Reserve as they defeated Parkdale Vultures by 100 points. Led by Chad Jones’ eight goals, the Snow Dogs were unstoppable as they won every quarter throughout the match. Marcus Holland booted five goals in just his third senior game this year, while Adam Bentick and Tom Sullivan were at their most dominant through the midfield. Daniel Rendell was named best on a tough day for the home side, while Robert Meade (3) and Charlie Dillon (2) were their only multiple goal scorers. The Snow Dogs remain one game clear at the top of the ladder, while the Vultures are sixth and one game above the four teams below them.

Old Carey entered second spot on the Premier B ladder following their 76-point victory over Mazenod at Central Reserve. It was a tough first half with both sides kicking five goals and the Panthers leading by just four points at the main break, before exploding with 11 goals to one in the second half. Guy Dickson returned for his first game since Round 2 and top scored with four goals, and Jordan Ceppi booted three. Andrew Sloan was named best afield for the Panthers, while Augustine Patti and Chris Campbell were the best for the Nodders. The Panthers improved their percentage to 177.27%, surpassing the Blacks, while the Nodders are ninth and among the group of four teams on three wins.

Beaumaris went three games clear of Caulfield in fourth spot on the ladder after they defeated Ajax by 82 points at Banksia Reserve. After a slow opening term where just one goal was kicked (by the home side), the Sharks dominated the scoreboard with 13 goals to just three thereafter. Joel Cusack continued his hot form from the Big V B-D4 game with a game-high four goals, while teammate Jonno Nash was best afield. Zachary Braun and Richie Simon fought valiantly for the Jackas but to no avail as the team’s total of 24 points was a season-low. The Jackas are eighth on the ladder with three wins for the year.

University Blacks claimed their 11th win of the year as they defeated Caulfield Grammarians by 35 points at Glenhuntly Oval. Leading by nine points at half time, the Blacks kicked nine goals to one in a sensational third term, before the Fields fought back with five goals to one in the fourth. Lochie Dornauf kicked four goals for the second time in three games in a BOG display, while Lachlan Huntington returned to the line-up with three. Nicholas Silvestro’s strong form continued for the Fields with four goals alongside a standout performance from teammate and Big B-D4 skipper, Tim Nixon. Despite the win, the Blacks fall into third spot on the ladder, while the Fields remain fifth but now three games outside the four.
