Blues, Ogs qualify for finals as Saints fly through Lions

West Brunswick’s unbeaten run at the top of the Premier B Blue table continued for the 12th straight round, defeating Brunswick Renegades by 20 points at Gillon Oval. The Westies kept the Renegades to just two goals for the match while increasing their score with a major in every term after booting two in the first. Grace Macpherson was outstanding yet again for the Westies with two goals, while Maggie Forbes and Rebecca King starred for the second match in a row. Ashlee Gaddes and Alexandra Cashion fought hard for the Renegades as they sit sixth on the ladder with four wins.

St Mary’s Salesian made it seven wins on the trot after the defeated Collegians by 59 points at Harry Trott Oval. The second-placed Saints took a quarter to get going but after kicking just one goal in the first, dominated thereafter with nine goals to one. The Lions were able to kick their one goal for the game in the fourth. Joelly Firmin equalled her season-high four goals for the Saints and took her tally to 13, while Megan Furphy was best afield. Christine Nancarrow has been outstanding this season and was named best for the third time. She has been named in the best eight times from her eight games. Lucy Cutts kicked the Lions’ only goal. With just two games left, the Lions are now out of finals calculations.

Monash Blues moved into third spot on the ladder and solidified a finals spot with a commanding 49-point victory over Mazenod at Frearson Oval. After proving inaccurate with 1.6 in the first term, the Blues straightened up and piled on six unanswered for the rest of the game. No results were available for the Blues at time of publication, but Abbey Walton and Bronte Lennon maintained their strong form for the Nodders.

Old Camberwell registered their second win in a row and fourth of the season as they defeated Old Geelong by eight points at Como Park. Trailing by two points at quarter time, the Wellers kicked two goals to one in the remaining three terms to take the points in the low-scoring affair. No results had been submitted for the Wellers at time of publication but Lucy Gubbins was best afield for Old Geelong alongside Elizabeth Graham and Tashie Montgomery-Hribar. Despite the loss, Old Geelong have now qualified for finals after the Lions lost to the Saints.
