Westbourne Grammarians went one step closer to securing a finals berth with an all-important 20-point victory over Hawthorn AFC at Westbourne Grammar. Trailing by 13 points at 3QT, the Warriors came home with four unanswered goals to run over the Hawks. Justin Porter and Christopher Sneddon were named the best for the Warriors, and Dale Collins top-scored with three goals. Steven Wintle played a lone hand up forward with goals of his own for the Hawks. The Hawks remain second, one game and one spot above the Warriors.
Swinburne Uni kept their finals hopes well and truly alive with a 32-point win over Canterbury at St James Park. 15 goals to four in the opening three quarters gave the Razorbacks a 70-point lead until the Cobras came home with eight goals to two in the fourth. Ben Higgins, Riley Livingstone and Jackson Manning kicked three goals each, while Matthew Greenwood was BOG. Ryan Murray kicked five goals for the Cobras as they sit sixth and one spot below the Razorbacks.
Manningham Cobras re-entered the top four with a 25-point win over Richmond Central at Koonung Reserve. Six unanswered goals in the first term set the scene as the Snakes were playing catch-up thereafter. Adam Kinniburgh had a day out with six goals for the Cobras while Charles Overton led from the front for the Snakes. Manningham (4th) is on the same number of wins as Swinburne but lead them by just under 5%.
Aquinas made light work of La Trobe University as they ran out 229-point winners at Parade College. 57 scoring shots to eight paints a picture of the Bloods’ dominance as Lachlan Naulty (10) and Jake Cawsey (8) dominated up forward with 18 goals between them. Andy Castles and Joel McCarten fought hard for the Trobers.
Glen Eira continued their winning ways with a 100-point win over Albert Park. Connor Huthwaite kicked two goals in a BOG display alongside a four-goal haul from Daniel Entwistle. Joshua Beets top-scored for the Falcons with two goals.
