2025 Flag Feature – Tonner time at last!
Old Brighton entered the 2025 Premier Men’s competition as both the hunter AND the hunted. Externally, the club was widely seen as the clear premiership favourite, yet internally, the Tonners
Glen Eira claimed their second flag in three years when they defeated Hawthorn AFC by 15 points at Trevor Barker Oval.
The minor premiers trailed by 15 points at the main break but kicked seven goals to three in the second half. Andrew Barrett kicked five goals in a best-on-ground performance for the Gryphons, while Todd Richardson and Cale Hirschman were standouts.
Brodie Johnston and Cameron Allum starred for the Hawks during their dominant first half, while Tom Bowler kicked two goals.
The Gryphons last won a senior flag just three years ago against the Hawks.
Earlier in the day, the Hawks ran out to a 22-point Division 3 Reserve Grand Final victory over the Gryphons.
After kicking eight behinds in the opening term, the Hawks straightened up with seven goals to three thereafter.
Dave Upton kicked three goals for the Hawks, while Tom Bevan was named best afield. Vaughan Coffey impressed for the Gryphons.
