The VAFA is pleased to announce La Trobe University FC will field their two women’s teams in the VAFA Wilson women’s competition in 2019.
President of La Trobe’s women’s team, Samantha Greene, said they are delighted at the prospect of reuniting their women with the club’s men’s team after having a strong female representation for 10 years.
“We are excited about the direction the VAFA is taking women’s football and we are looking forward to being a part of this journey,” Greene said.
“By moving to the VAFA, it will allow us to coordinate all our home games together and ensure the club has a strong presence on game day.”
VAFA Women’s Football & Engagement Manager, Shona MacInnes, said “the competition is thrilled to welcome La Trobe’s women’s teams into our community ahead of an exciting third season”.
“La Trobe Uni’s strong history in women’s football is something we welcome and look forward to including into our expanding competition in 2019,” MacInnes said.
“As La Trobe enters its 11th year with a women’s team, there is no doubt the entire club and the VAFA women’s sections will benefit greatly from their participation.”
La Trobe last tasted premiership success in 2011 and joined the NFNL following the disbandment of the VWFL in November 2016.
