Caulfield cruise as Sharks end Blues in Premier B

Caulfield Grammarians caused a boilover in Premier B, defeating St Bedes/Mentone Tigers by 74 points at Brindisi St Oval. The Fields had 21 scoring shots in the opening half but if not for inaccuracy (5.16), would have led by a far greater margin than the eventual 43 points. However, they kept the Tigers goalless to the half and continued their hot form with nine goals to four in the second half. Jack Wallace top-scored with four goals for the Fields, while Declan Reilly and Will Edwards were standouts. Michael Barnes and Patrick Tyquin were named best for the Tigers on an otherwise disappointing day.

Old Haileybury secured their first win for the season with a thrilling two-point victory over Parkdale Vultures at Princes Park Caulfield today. The Bloods never led by more than 12 points at any break throughout the day but held on when the Vultures pressured with 4.6 to 3.2 in the final term. Lachlan Treverton continued his hot start to the year with a BOG display for the Bloods while teammates Durras Seccull (4) and Samuel Loewe (3) kicked seven goals between them. Dylan Glascott led the way with three goals for the Vultures who now fall to two losses.

University Blacks cruised to their second straight victory with a 73-point victory over Fitzroy at Brunswick St Oval. Memories of the Uni Blacks and Uni Reds from yesteryear re-emerged on the historic occasion but all eyes were soon on the field as the Blacks piled on 10 of the first 13 goals. Daniel McCullough, John Roysmith and Joel Ernest each kicked three for the Blacks while Thomas Swift nailed two in a BOG performance. Ted Clayton starred for the home side and Sean Laidlaw top-scored for the Roys with two majors.

Beaumaris kick-started their 2019 campaign with a 53-point come-from-behind victory over Monash Blues at Frearson Oval. The Sharks trailed by nine points at half time but soon turned things around with 12 goals to two in the second half. Christopher Grigoriadis led the charge with a bag of five goals for the Sharks while Callum Linehan was best afield. Gareth Taylor top-scored with three for the Blues and Benjamin Warren stood tall as their best player.

Old Scotch continued their blistering start to the 2019 season with a comprehensive 122-point win over Old Geelong at Como Park. Leading by 20 points at the first break, the Cardinals exploded with seven goals to one in the second before continuing to dominate with a further 15 goals to five in the second half. Aiden Franetic (6) and Dylan Gilbert (5) were unstoppable in front of goal for the Cardinals while Jack Hurley was best afield. Mickey Nicholls and Jacob Jess fought hard for the OGs.
