Jackas snap losing streak, Monders claim GF replay win

Ormond proved too strong in their grand final replay against Hampton Rovers, running out 21-point winners at Boss James Reserve. The Monders kicked four goals to one and took a 22-point lead into quarter time break before the Rovers settled and went toe-to-toe with six goals apiece for the remainder of the match. Skipper Tom Buckley and Henry Simon kicked three goals each for the Monders while young gun Dae Szydlik was named best afield. Daniel Corp registered two majors in a standout performance for the Rovers.

Ajax snapped an eight-game losing streak dating back to Round 12 last year when they defeated Old Ivanhoe by 32 points at Chelsworth Park. Leading by three points at the first break, the Jackas started to gain the ascendancy with four goals to two in the second term before running out the game with another eight goals to five in the second half. 10 players hit the scoreboard for the Jackas but it was Nick Cohen who was named their best for the second consecutive week after claiming two majors.

Eight goals to two in the second half helped Williamstown CYMS come from behind and claim their second win of the season, defeating Mazenod by 39 points at Central Reserve. It was all the Nodders early as they kicked five of the first seven goals before the CYs edged their way back in the second term with six goals to three. Trailing by one point at the half, the CYs put the result beyond doubt in the second half as Ben Deller led the charge up forward with a bag of five. Jack Connolly continued his outstanding start to the season for the CYs, while Jarryd Raffa and Jake Walton were best afield for the Nodders.

Old Camberwell edged out their second consecutive win by less than a goal when they defeated Marcellin by five points at Marcellin College. The see-saw battle had the Wellers trailing by 10 points at the final break but they fought back with five goals to three in the final term. Scott Kaiser was unstoppable up forward and kicked six goals for the Wellers alongside standout performances from Simon Bennett and Chris Hensby. Marcellin shared the goals with players booting multiples, while it was Jeremiah Antypas and Ash Viney who were named their side’s best.

Old Mentonians held on against a fast-finishing PEGS outfit and claimed their second win of the year by six points at PEGS Sporting Fields. Leading by 23 points at three quarter time, the Panthers gave up six goals to three in the final term but had done enough earlier in the match. Tom Morecroft and Max Rothberg kicked three goals apiece for the Panthers and Bryce Damin starred in a BOG performance. Brett Hannah and Max Philpot were standouts for the Bombers.
