Tigers record greatest win, Wickers fire

Masala Dandenong registered what was arguably their greatest win as a club, defeating St Francis Xavier by three points in a thriller at Fotheringham Reserve. The Tigers trailed by 12 points at quarter time but exploded with five unanswered goals in the second before holding on as the X-Men pressured in the second half. Janahan Kumaralingam was a standout for the Tigers with five goals in a BOG display alongside Declan Fowler and Sam Freeman who kicked three each. Harrison added to his four from Round 1 with seven majors for the X-Men while Stephen Richards-Gill booted four. The undefeated Tigers sit in third spot on the ladder, three above the X-Men in sixth.

After sitting out Round 1 due to the bye, Elsternwick kick-started their 2019 campaign with a comfortable five-goal victory over La Trobe University. The Wickers led by two goals at the first break but steamed ahead with five goals to two in a match-winning second term. Julian Yeatman (pictured) was at his best in front of goal with five for the Wickers alongside teammate Nick Lowrie who booted four. Matt Ogle continued his outstanding form from 2018 with four goals and a BOG display for the Trobers.

Albert Park bounced back from their Round 1 loss with a 56-point victory over South Mornington at Ross Gregory Oval. The Falcons trailed by nine points at quarter time but took over with 15 of the last 20 goals of the game. Tom Wilson recorded five goals in a BOG performance while Jack Amies and Tyson Cattle were outstanding. Robert Wilson booted four majors and Daniel Woods was their best player.

South Melbourne Districts proved too strong for Box Hill North as they ran out 46-point winners at Lindsay Hassett Oval. 4.5 to two behinds in the first term set the tone for the Swans as they continued to dominate with a total of 33 scoring shots to 12. Nine players shared in the Swans’ 11 goals and Jason Clifford was their most dominant performer for the second week in a row. Thomas Cheslett booted two goals for the Demons while James North was also named their best for the second time in as many games.
