Two Blues edge past Pirates, Vultures still circling

UHS-VU proved too strong for Kew, running out 19-point winners at Brens Oval. Five goals to two in the second term proved the difference as the Bears ultimately outscored the Vultures by a goal in the other three quarters. Nick Wallace kicked three goals for the Vultures and Fraser Allen was best afield. Nathan Sambevski kicked four goals for the second week in a row for the Bears.

Another team yet to lose a game in 2019, Oakleigh defeated Therry Penola by 39 points at John Pascoe Fawkner Reserve. The Krushers trailed the Lions by four goals at quarter time but hit back in a big way with 14 of the last 20 goals of the match. Luke Pappon kicked two goals and was best afield for the Krushers while Aaron Cloke booted four. Rory MacGregor kicked three for the Lions as they fall to ninth spot on the ladder with two losses to start the season.

Prahran Assumption registered their first win for the year with a thrilling two-point victory over Peninsula OB at the Pirates’ school ground. Trailing by five points at three quarter time, the Two Blues slogged it out for two goals to one in a desperate final term. Luke Kerr was the standout for the Two Blues alongside James Falcone who kicked three goals. Tory Taylor had a day out with seven goals for the Pirates.

St Mary’s Salesian remain undefeated two rounds into the season after they defeated Old Paradians by 43 points at Ferndale Park. Jack Elliston (5) and many Dolan (4) recorded nine of the Saints’ 16 goals, while former Maffra Eagle and Gippsland Power representative Pat Jones starred in a BOG display. Will Gilmore and Jake Plunkett were impressive for the Raiders as they remain 10th in the early part of the season.

West Brunswick bounced back from their Round 1 loss with a 33-point win over Preston Bullants at Ruthven Reserve. Senior coach Bill Irving led from the front with a haul of seven goals, while Sam Fleming and Cameron Perkins nailed three each. Chris Polidoras kicked four for the Bullants and Liam Carter was named their best player.
