The VAFA congratulates St Bernard’s utility Daniel Hanna who has been named the Round 2 Men’s Rising Star nominee following his sensational debut against Old Carey.
What the club said:
“Daniel was a member of the school 1st XVIII football team in 2017 who played his junior football at Aberfeldie FC. Daniel played with the Calder Cannons in seasons 2017 and 2018, playing as a key position defender both years.
Daniel transferred to St Bernard’s OCFC in the 2018/19 off-season and is a listed player with Essendon’s VFL side. Daniel made his senior debut with St Bernard’s in Saturday’s Round 2 clash against Old Carey.
Daniel believes he most resembles Justin Westhoff as a player. Daniel is a similar size to Westhoff, he is a versatile key position type capable of playing down back or forward with very good running ability.
Daniel’s strength as a footballer include his read of the game, his intercept marking, his contested marking and his quality decision making.
As a new member of the St Bernard’s senior football club, many players remark on how quiet Daniel is, that he really doesn’t talk too much at all. Daniel’s nickname at he club is ‘sticks’ – for obvious reasons.”
