Roys hit the board, Vultures overrun Sharks

Fitzroy registered their first win of 2019 with a 13-point victory over St Bedes/Mentone Tigers at Brindisi St Oval. The Roys kicked out to a 30-point lead after booting five unanswered goals in the opening term and maintained their lead throughout the the match. Lachlan Henderson starred in front of goal for the Roys with four while Ted and Bill Clayton were the two best players on the ground. Chris Mangoni and Michael Barnes played well for the Tigers as they suffered their third loss in a row.

Parkdale Vultures claimed their second win of the season after they came from behind and defeated Beaumaris by 19 points at Gerry Green Reserve. The Vultures trailed by 21 points at half time but found form with 11 goals to five in the second half. Jackson Boland booted four goals for the Vultures which included a Tim Cahill-esque mid-air strike to seal the win, while Jack Vorbach was best afield. Oscar McMaster kicked two and was named best for the Sharks.

Caulfield Grammarians retained their unbeaten run and second spot on the ladder, defeating University Blacks by eight points at Glenhuntly Oval. The Fields trailed by 15 points at the final break but piled on four goals to one in a dominant final term. Will Edwards starred for the Fields and was named BOG alongside a standout performance from Theo Thompson. Lachie Huntington was a standout for the Blacks with four goals.

Old Scotch’s strong start to the year continued with a 75-point victory over Old Haileybury at Princes Park, Caulfield. The Cardinals, who sit on top of the ladder with four straight wins, trailed by two points at quarter time but nailed 13 goals to one thereafter. Tom Downie continued his hot start to his career at Scotch with a BOG display, while Josh Edwards and Will Carrington kicked two goals each. Brodie Steele was impressive for the Bloods despite their loss.

Old Geelong moved into sixth spot on the ladder after they defeated Monash Blues by 24 points at Frearson Oval. Trailing by two points at half time, OGs booted seven goals to two in the final two terms. Christian Hatzis had a day out with four goals for OGs and Scott Dixon was best afield. Beau Harris kicked two goals as the Blues continue to search for their first win of 2019.
