It was a high-scoring affair this week in Division 2, with all sides pushing their limits to kick big bags and match the best of the competition.

Brunswick and Whitefriars are proving too smooth for the rest of the pack, straying further from Yarra Old Grammarians, who suffered their second loss in two weeks.

Ivanhoe have snatched victory and Glen Eira have come awfully close in their charge for the top four.

Brunswick vs Glen Eira

Brunswick have added another 4 points to their collection as they took down Glen Eira by a close 12 points.

The Gryphons worked hard in the first to keep close to the Nobbers, booting Six goals to Brunswick’s seven to set the game up for a high-scoring encounter.

The Nobbers settled in the second quarter, applying scoreboard pressure kicking six majors of their own and holding the Gryphons to only two goals going into half time. But the Gryphons weren’t giving up and came out refreshed for the second half, slowing the Nobbers’ scoring to only three majors. With the score line showing a 30-point margin holding the Gryphons back, they restricted and shut down the Nobbers handy forwardline, holding them to only one goal. Glen Eira booted a final three goals but it wasn’t enough to get over the line. The first quarter efforts from the Nobbers paid off in the long run.

Dom Sullivan starred with 8 majors to his name, in another top performance from the surging Nobbers.

His able support fell to Jacob Adkins who also booted 5 goals, while Ben Wilson was strong elsewhere.

For the Gryphons, whose efforts shouldn’t go unnoticed, Todd Richardson (2 goals) and Bryce Judd (2 goals) were prominent in their sides narrow loss.

Hawthorn vs Ivanhoe

Ivanhoe have heroically come from behind to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against Hawthorn, by 29 points.

The Hawks got off to a flying start booting five goals to one in the first term and came in hot to start the second quarter with two early goals.

The Hawks piled on the goals and the pressure in the second quarter, holding the Hoers to only 2 goals going into halftime. However, a main break rest the Hoers saw them refreshed and ready to charge against a firing young Hawthorn side. It was a final quarter surge for the Hoers, who continued their efforts and booted six majors, while shutting the Hawks down and only leaking one goal to seal victory.

Wesley Mayne booted four for the Hoers, with Daniel Jones a prominent support.

For Hawthorn, Justin Raiti had two goals to his tally and Trav Wittle was an able support.

MHSOB vs Yarra Old Grammarians

On their small ground, MHSOB have come out victorious over Yarra Old Grammarians, by 22 points in an exciting victory for the Unicorns.

The Unicorns came to play early, booting four first quarter goals while holding the Bushrangers to only 1 goal at the first break. The Bushrangers managed three more goals before halftime, but struggled to stop the Unicorn run-on as MHSOB too a 17-point half time lead.

The Unicorns composure allowed them to boot seven majors after the main break, led by the ever-trusted James Tran (3 majors). Additionally, Brad Jordan was voted BOG for his efforts across the ground for the Unicorns. Luke Barker (4 goals) was the shining light for the Bushrangers, with David Wildsmith also booting 2 goals.

Yarra will need to get up and going and reinvent themselves to compete against the teams who are progressing to play finals in 2019.

Whitefriars vs Bulleen Templestowe

The Whitefriars have continued on their merry way with a 62 point win over a deflated Bulleen Templestowe side at Whitefriars College.

It was a tough journey for the Bullants, but they started strong, matching the bag of five Friar goals with three of their own in the first term. But in typical Friar Fashion, they came out strong in the second and third terms, kicking eight goals leading into the last term. Simultaneously, the Friars defense held Bulleen to only four goals into the last quarter. It was all over when the Friars added another five goals to their total and sealed another four points away.

The Friars had another impressive spread of 10 goal-kickers, led by James Perrin (3) and Kristan Height (3). Michael Nitas (2 goals) was all class as he attempts to climb back up the goal-kicking race. For the Bullants, Kristian Cherbakof (2 Goals) and Bill Tourogianis were strong again.

The Bullants were outclassed today and the Friars will take next weeks bye as a rest for their very tired boys.
