CYs impress, Panthers triumph in thriller

Old Ivanhoe upset the streaking Hampton Rovers with a 72-point victory at Chelsworth Park. It was a surging start from Old Ivanhoe that gave them a commanding lead to secure the much-needed victory. A day to forget for Hampton scoring 4.15, the Hoers kept them to their lowest score this season. Luke Scuderi (4), Richard Skok (3) and Jack Welham (3) were major contributors for Old Ivanhoe and William Gough earned himself a best on ground. Sam Bradford booted three for the Rovers.

Old Ivanhoe will clash with Old Camberwell at Gordon Barnard Reserve for Round 8 as they look to cement themselves towards the upper section of the ladder. For the Wellers, it’s another tough challenge but a good opportunity at home to end their five-game drought. Hampton Rovers take on PEGS at home as both search for a win despite their Round 7 losses. A win is needed for the Rovers to enter the top half of the ladder whereas PEGS sit bottom.

Williamstown CYMS continued to impress with a compelling 59-point win over Ormond at E.E. Gunn Reserve. In a neck and neck first term and a one-point advantage to the CY’s, we thought a classic was to follow. From then on Williamstown CYMS took advantage forcing one the fiercest competitors in Ormond to yield. The output from Williamstown CYMS couldn’t be matched with 16 goals to seven for the remainder of the contest. An outstanding seven goals for Dylan Jones and BOG display from Nicholas Blackney proved vital for the CY’s. Ormond’s Zach Benson was their best.

Ormond will take on Ajax at Gary Smorgon Oval for Round 8, as they look to make a quick rebound following their loss. Williamstown CYMS welcome Marcellin to Fearon Reserve and are looking unbeatable. Marcellin is contending with the top sides despite their losses, and there is no better time to dethrone the Kings of Premier C.

Ajax attained their second win for the season to the tune of 84 points over Old Camberwell Grammarians. Eight points separated the sides at the first break but the Jackas promptly extended the margin to 55 points during the second term. Ajax’s seven goals to none in the fourth quarter put the game to bed in a morale-building win. Jake Lew got himself eight majors, Evgeni Routman booted five and Brent Shapiro starred in a BOG performance for Ajax. Fraser Wells looked strong for the Wellers.

After a notable win, Ajax expects Ormond in Round 8 for a tough test. Ajax has the chance to make a statement and derail Ormond with a second straight loss. Still, in second position, the Monders must stay focused heading into enemy territory for this contest. Without a win since Round 2, Old Camberwell Grammarians face Old Ivanhoe Grammarians this weekend where they will look to get back to winning ways. The Hoers have now entered the top four with intentions to stay there.

In a thrilling match up, Old Mentonians triumphed by two points at Keysborough Playing Grounds against Marcellin. A strong start from the Panthers resulted in a 15-point lead at the first break, but it was anyone’s game at the half after four goals to one in favour of Marcellin put them two points in front. The third term came and didn’t give any indication on who would prevail as Marcellin had a one-goal lead, before Old Mentonians were able to boot three to Marcellin’s two in the final term deciding the game by a small margins. Joshua Gorman was named best afield for the Panthers while Lachlan Boyd booted three goals. For Marcellin, Matthew De Luca starred with Jeremiah Antypas kicking three.

Following a hard-fought victory, Old Mentonians travel to Central Reserve to face Mazenod in Round 8. After ending their two-game losing streak with a clutch win, look for Old Mentonians to build on that here. Marcellin will face 1st placed Williamstown CYMS at Fearon Reserve for a contest which will take their best performance to upset the undefeated title favourites.

Mazenod ran out 43-point victors in their Round 7 contest against PEGS at PEGS Sporting Fields. With both sides kicking two majors in the first term, there was only a two-point edge to the Nodders, though PEGS were unable to hit the scoreboard with any further majors until the final term when they outscored Mazenod with four goals to three, but left it too late. Mazenod amassed a large lead and held off the Bombers to achieve their second win for 2019. Nicholas Pascuzzi booted three and Thomas Warby had another impactful performance being named BOG. Max Philpot was the best for PEGS for a consecutive week.

PEGS Football Club faces Hampton Rovers at Boss James Reserve in Round 8. Both sides will be hungry to win this contest after disappointing results in Round 7. Mazenod expects Old Mentonians at Central Reserve for an interesting clash. Mazenod hopes to upset 3rd placed Panthers who can only be ecstatic with their Round 7 win.
