De La upset SKOB, OMs, Xavs come from behind

De La Salle caused the upset of the season with a 10-point victory over St Kevin’s OB at Waverley Oval. De La jumped SKOB and kicked four unanswered goals in the opening term and held on when SKOB came hard with five goals in the fourth. Tom Humphrey returned from injury with a BOG performance for De La while Aaron Trusler kicked three goals. Billy Kanakis and Cam Hodges impressed for SKOB.

Old Melburnians came from the clouds in their Round 8 clash with Old Trinity, running out 32-point winners at Elsternwick Park. Despite kicking five straight to half time the OM’s trailed by 32 points at the main break, before booting 11 goals to one in a dominant second half. Jackson Paine and Tom Cameron were the main contributors in front of goal with four apiece and Gus Borthwick starred in a BOG display, while Harry Tinney kicked four majors for the T’s.

Old Xaverians once again proved they’re a force to be reckoned with as they came from 28 points down and ran over Collegians by 15 at Harry Trott Oval. Collegians were outstanding in the first half with six of the first nine goals of the game, but the Xavs stormed home with seven goals in the final term. Jason Holmes and Rohan Bewick showed their class as they led Xavs’ comeback while Matt Jenkinson and Ben Darrou stood out for the Lions.

St Bernard’s snapped a three-game losing streak with an impressive 22-point victory over Old Brighton at the Snake Pit. Leading by three points at quarter time, the Snow Dogs exploded with seven goals to two in the second. Jack McNamara and Michael Caven kicked three goals each for the Snow Dogs while Will Lewis and Hamish Dick were two standouts for Brighton with four goals apiece.

Nine goals to one in the second term helped University Blues to a dominant 106-point win over Old Carey at Carey Sports Complex. Tim Harper and Josh Green starred with five goals each while Cam O’Shea continued his outstanding individual form. Henry Schade and Marc Lock impressed for Carey despite the significant loss.
