Sharks surprise Blacks as Bloods notch 3rd win

Beaumaris delivered an almighty upset in Premier B when they defeated University Blacks by 18 points at Banksia Reserve. Just three points separated the sides at three quarter time before the Sharks piled on four goals to one in the final term. Callum Heath and Scott Gower were standouts for the Sharks while Jarrod Carlson continued his sensational form as the best for the Blacks. It was a crucial win for the Sharks as they remain within a game of the Tigers in fourth, while the Blacks are now two wins outside the top two.

St Bedes/Mentone Tigers made it four wins on the trot when they defeated Monash Blues by 45 points at Frearson Oval. The fourth-placed Tigers trailed by 13 points at the first break but fought back with five unanswered goals in the second term. It was all Bedes in the second half as they kept the Blues to just two goals while kicking six more themselves. Nathan Fahey returned to the line-up with a bag of five goals for the Tigers alongside three from Brayden O’Toole and two from Josh Cowan. Nick Petering booted three of his own for the Blues as they remain in 10th spot on the ladder.

Halfway through the season and Caulfield Grammarians remain undefeated at the top of the Premier B ladder, this week defeating Old Geelong by 32 points at Geelong College for their ninth straight victory. OGs were more than valiant in defeat and led by 13 points at the final break before the Fields came storming home with eight goals to one in a dominant final quarter. Julian Dobosz was simply unstoppable yet again for the Fields and kicked seven goals, making it 24 from his four games. Lachlan Stephens impressed with three for the Fields, while Sam Anderson and Jono Simpson each kicked three for OGs.

Old Scotch were forced to come from behind in their R9 clash with Parkdale Vultures, eventually running out 30-point winners at Gerry Green Reserve. The Cardinals trailed by 10 points at three quarter time but managed seven unanswered goals in the final term. 11 players shared the Cardinals’ 15 goals with Tom Downie and Josh Halsall leading the charge with three apiece. Liam Marshall was a standout for the Vultures with four alongside an impressive performance from Andrew Watterson in his first game of the season.

Old Haileybury notched their third win of the season when they also came from behind and overran Fitzroy to the tune of 21 points. The Bloods trailed by 23 points at the first break before they commenced their comeback with four goals to two in the second term. A six-goal to one third quarter was all they needed to cement the win, with Peter Shakallis and James Paul their most impressive. Max Ellis was once again a standout for the Roys.
