Ivanhoe proved too strong for Hawthorn AFC as they notched up a 43-point victory at Rathmines Reserve. Federica Frew was the standout for Ivanhoe booting three goals in her side’s triumph. It was a solid defensive effort from Ivanhoe, as they kept the Hawks scoreless for the opening two quarters. Paris Penny was the only Hawthorn player who managed to kick goals for her side with two.
Old Scotch pulled off a superb 35-point win over Old Haileyburians at Camberwell Sports Ground. The win was steered by a dominant third quarter performance where they scored three goals and kept the Hearts scoreless. Old Scotch’s Kate Hunter-Scott was integral chipping in with two goals and could not be contained with her pressure and intent, resulting in this week’s Anytime Fitness Rising Star nomination. Old Haileyburians managed to score only two majors in the whole match courtesy of Alexia Karatzikos and Georgina Janssen. On the ladder, Old Scotch move two and a half games clear of Old Brighton further increasing their already superior percentage of 513.49%. The Hearts remain fifth on the ladder despite the loss just their percentage has slightly decreased.
La Trobe University defeated Old Mentonians by 17 points at Keysborough Playing Field. It was an unexpected win from La Trobe University with Old Mentonians being placed higher on the ladder with three wins to their name. However, La Trobe were on from the onset only allowing Old Mentonians to score a behind for the whole match. The only two goals in the match were kicked in the second quarter from LaTrobe University’s Samantha Greene and Antonietta D’Angelo. The win for LaTrobe marks only their second win of the Division 1 season.
Restricting Old Brighton to one point for the entire match helped Beaumaris to their sixth win of the season by 20 points at Banksia Reserve. The Sharks opened the goal scoring in the second term where they booted two goals. They kept this momentum going into the third quarter, as they added a goal. Zoe Larrieu, Alexandra Gilchrist and Alana Gadsby were impressive for Beaumaris in attack slotting through a goal each. The superior performance from Beaumaris over Old Brighton was unexpected particularly, as Old Brighton hold a healthy percentage 196.00% and a game clear on the ladder.
