
Champions of Change: Celebrating Women Coaches in the VAFA
This July, the VAFA proudly joins AFL Victoria in celebrating Women’s Coaching Month, now in its fifth year. The 2025 theme, “Champions of Change,” recognises the powerful role women and
University Blacks star ruckman Josh Steadman has been appointed the Premier B – Division 4 Big V captain as the VAFA prepares to take on Perth FL in Western Australia this weekend.
This weekend’s match will mark Steadman’s representative debut after he joined University Blacks from Thurgoona FC in 2011 as an U19’s player. He has since played 83 senior matches for the Blacks and was named captain of his club this year after two seasons as vice to Big V champion Bede Mahon.
Steadman will be assisted by Yarra Old Grammarians forward Luke Barker and Caulfield Grammarians midfielder Will Edwards. Kristian Height (Whitefriars), Tom Warby (Mazenod) and Andrew Jelbart (Old Scotch) round out the leadership group, culminating in three from Premier B and one each from Premier C, Division 1 and Division 2.
The final side will be announced at tonight’s jumper presentation before the team flies to Perth on Friday morning. They will face the Perth FL at Fremantle Oval on Saturday afternoon and the game will be live streamed for VAFA supporters.
