RMIT University were a class above North Brunswick AFC with their fourth win of the season, running out 65-point winners at Allard Park. It was an impressive defensive performance from RMIT, they helped to keep North Brunswick scoreless for the whole first half and to a goal for the entire match. With RMIT University the only team to score, they managed to slot through three goals in the first half. RMIT University put their foot on the accelerator in the second half with a comprehensive seven goals to one. The lead on the scoreboard could have been a lot worse for North Brunswick AFC, if RMIT University kicked more accurately. Sarah McKenna was influential for RMIT University with two goals, as for the rest there were eight individual goal scorers. North Brunswick AFC’s only goal kicker from the match was Natasha Lee. North Brunswick AFC look likely to finish last with one round left, while RMIT University are a game away fifth placed Nodders.
A dominant performance from second placed Brunswick Renegades sends a message to the rest of the Premier C Women’s competition with a solid 28-point win over third Canterbury Football Club at Alec Gillon Oval. Canterbury Football Club struggled to register any score for the whole match. They struggled to gain any momentum with their possessions. Brunswick Renegades’ forward Sasha Dougherty caused headaches for Canterbury’s defenders contributing three of the total four majors scored by her team in the match. The solid victory gives Brunswick Renegades a two game buffer on Canterbury with one game remaining, while Canterbury will now only be able to finish as high as third or as low as fourth with their last match against RMIT University and South Melbourne Districts could sneak into third spot with a huge win over seventh placed Old Melburnians with one match remaining.
Yarra Old Grammarians were made to earn the four points the tough way, defeating South Melbourne Districts by 21-points at Doncaster Reserve. It was a level pegging opening term with both teams able to score two goals each and only a point separated both teams on the scoreboard at quarter time. The second quarter was the same story, except that both teams accuracy at goal was an issue with Yarra Old Grammarians scoring four behinds to South Melbourne Districts one. Yarra Old Grammarians came out with all the ascendancy in the second half with two goals and five behinds and they managed to keep South Melbourne Districts scoreless. For the Yarra Old Grammarians, this scoring was led by Phoebe Wolff with two goals and three teammates contributed a goal each including Rebecca Dumesny and Morgan Kellett-Jackson respectively. South Melbourne Districts lone goal scorer was Amanda Ventura with two. Yarra Old Grammarians sit comfortably atop the ladder and South Melbourne Districts remain fourth but could move to third if they get the four points in the last round of the season.
Mazenod showed their superiority over Old Melburnians with a massive 73-point victory at Central Reserve. The Nodders were strong defensively and offensively as a team and Old Melburnians had no answers to stopping this dominance. Two goals and five behinds were booted by the Nodders in the opening term. The Nodders goal kicking accuracy improved in the second quarter, they nailed through three goals and three behinds. They maintained this authority in the contest well into the second half, they piled on five goals and six behinds. Sarah Biviano was the pick of the goal kickers for the Nodders slotting through three majors and teammates Alannah Acciarito and Belinda Mason contributed two goals apiece, with the rest three individual goal scorers. The Nodders position on the ladder remains unchanged and Old Melburnians stay seventh.
