Hunter’s 700th helps Wickers maintain winning form

Elsternwick’s run of form hit new heights in Round 14 as they defeated Eley Park Sharks and secured their fifth straight win. Scores were tied 51-51 at half time until the Wickers kicked away with nine goals three in the third term. Justin Hunter was the name on everyone’s lips as the Wickers stalwart kicked six goals and registered his 700th for the club in the process. Peter Cassidy was best afield while Josh Beasley and Matthew Rosier were standouts for the Sharks.

La Trobe University now sit just one game out of the top four following their 22-point win over Box Hill North. The Trobers trailed by three points after a low-scoring opening term but got on top in the second half with seven goals to four. Bailey Zimmermann top-scored with three goals for the Trobers and teammate Andy Castles was best afield for the second week in a row, while Jake Lacriarde continued his outstanding individual form for the Demons as he was named their best for the third consecutive match.

Albert Park maintained second spot on the ladder with a comfortable 74-point win over Masala-Dandenong. 12 goals to one in the first half paved the way for the Falcons as Joshua Beets backed up his six goals last week with another six this weekend. Brodie Matheson and Cale Blizzard were standouts for the Falcons while no results had been submitted for Masala.

49 scoring shots to 15 helped St Francis Xavier to a dominant 103-point win over South Mornington at Strathaird Reserve. The X-Men trailed the Tigers by two points at the first break and led by 15 at half time before exploding with 12 unanswered goals in the second half. Harrison Coe was at his best with nine goals and took his season tally to 88 from 13 games, while Matthew Wells top-scored for the Tigers with three.
