Rovers rise while the CY’s stay perfect

Rovers rise while the CY’s stay perfect

Jake Morris

Getting the job done to stave off relegation was Hampton Rovers as they stormed home to down Old Mentonians by three points at Boss James Reserve. Sam Bradford, Christian Carnovale and Campbell Hetherington each kicked three for the Rovers to move six-points clear of the ninth placed Wellers and return to Premier C next year. Lucas Haig and Max Rothberg kicked three apiece for Old Mentonians, who finish their year with eight wins.

Perfecting their 2019 Premier C campaign was Williamstown CYMS as they made light-work of Marcellin to run out convincing 133-point winners at Marcellin College. A steady stream of scoring led by Jack Noonan with four and a best on ground performance from Tom Johnstone helped the CY’s make it 18 wins from 18 games, achieving the perfect home & away season. Adam Tomaro kicked three for Marcellin who end their overly positive year in disappointing fashion.

Making sure their opponents wouldn’t be returning to Premier C next year was Mazenod, as they cruised past Old Camberwell by 23 points at Central Reserve. Jarryd Raffa and Liam Welsford bagged three apiece for the Nodders, who finish their season with nine wins. Despite a bag of six from Scott Kaiser, the Wellers will play in Division 1 in 2020 as they finish with just five wins.

Pumping themselves up ahead of September action was Old Ivanhoe as they accounted for PEGS by 60 points at Chelsworth Park. Jack Welham and Michael Mitris combined for nine goals as their side led from start to finish in a clinical performance that sets up a first round Semi-Final do or die clash with Ajax. PEGS will join Old Camberwell in Division 1 next season, managing just two wins for the year.

Sending an impressive message on the eve of finals action was Ajax,as they erupted out of the gates to speed past a lacklustre Ormond by 39 points at E.E.Gunn Reserve. Toby Sheezel and Jake Lew kicked three apiece while Ben Krongold was named best afield as the Jackas round into some scary form ahead of their finals clash with Old Ivanhoe. Jack Mason kicked three for Ormond who now face the ultimate test in the CY’s, tasked with beating the side with an unblemished record for a spot in the Grand Final.
