Two-time AFL premiership player, Matt Suckling, will continue his football career when he lines up for Ormond AFC in 2021.
Suckling, 32, played 178 games for Hawthorn (102) and the Western Bulldogs (76) during his 14-year AFL career, and was part of the Hawks’ 2014 and 2015 premiership sides.
Ormond President, Richard Simon, made the announcement via social media, saying the club is thrilled Suckling chose to continue his post-AFL career with the Monders.
“Matt is looking forward to returning to a district footy club, an environment with which he has fond memories from his early football days in Wagga Wagga before being recruited into the AFL,” Simon said.
“Matt will also be an Assistant Coach, and his knowledge, skills and behaviours will be important and valuable additions for the senior playing group.
“We can’t wait to see Matt execute his long left-foot bombs at EE Gunn Reserve in 2021.”
The recruitment of Suckling strengthens the Monders’ ties with Hawthorn after announcing 2013 premiership ruckman Max Bailey will coach the U19’s this season.
Ormond will be looking to secure their first senior Premier C flag since 2008.
