Bullants hold Animals to nil, Jackas bring down the House

Rebecca Carter

It was all Bulleen Templestowe at Bennettswood Sports Ground, as they held Emmaus St Leos scoreless for the entire match, walking away with a 69-point win and top spot on the ladder. After Bulleen Templestowe sent through 8 first half goals, Emmaus fought back well, only allowing one more goal to be added to the tally in the second half. Josephine Pope lead the charge with 4 goals, supported by Zoe Vodden with 2 goals and Samantha Fossey started her season with a best on ground display. Victoria Holt and Eilish Wallace were the Animals best performers.

The closest match of the round belonged to Hampton Rovers and Oakleigh. Hampton’s inaccuracy in front of goal meant that there was only a goal in it at three quarter time, but it was Hampton who ran away 15 point winners, with a two goal to one final term. Mandy Naylor (Hampton) and Bianca Veutibau (Oakleigh) were the only multiple goal scorers for their respective teams. This clash may be a sign of things to come for both these teams, who will be pushing their case for August finals action.

AJAX notched up their first win in Division 3 with an impressive 22-point win over Power House. The full-time score line only changed by 3 points from half time, with neither team finding a way past the defensive lines to register any further major scores. Maddy Smart (2), Layla Simmons (1) and Jessica Israel (1) were the goal kickers for AJAX, whilst Power House’s single goal was courtesy of Brittany Tancred. Annelise and Julia Emily Caplan starred for AJAX, both starting the season off in strong form. Up a division from 2019, AJAX will feel like they are right at home in Division 3 whilst Power House will look to bounce back strongly next week and register their first win of the season.

Glen Eira showed they will be just as strong in Division 3 as they were last year in Division 4, powering to a 42-point win over a new-look South Melbourne Districts. The damage was done in the first half, with Glen Eira piling on 4 goals to just one behind, before adding a further 4 goals to South Melbourne’s two in the second half (both kicked by Rohanna Crouch). Alex Enever proved to be Glen Eira’s best alongside Georgia Clair who booted 4 majors for her team.
