Caulfield Grammarians were able to secure their first win for the season with an impressive 76-point victory against St Mary’s Salesian. The Fields charged onto the ground with determination and gained a 22-point lead in the first term, with St Mary’s unable to hit the scoreboard. Amy Dunn was a clear standout with four goals and a best on ground performance, while teammates Irena Malliaras, Maddison Wilson and Samantha Hodgson each slotted a goal. Amy Kerr and Grace Varcoe held strong for the Saints, playing well despite the loss. The Fields will head home to Glenhuntly Oval next week to face off against West Brunswick, with St Mary’s Salesian going head to head against reigning 2019 premiers SKOB Saints.
Kew is holding on tight to top spot in William Buck Premier with a polished performance against Old Xaverians resulting in a 35-point win. Five goals in the first half gave the Bears a 21-point lead at the main break, and they built on their lead with another three goals to one thereafter. Goal kickers included Cahlia Haslam, Danielle Calautti and Tara Donnan with two apiece, while Michaela Harding claimed best on ground honours. Kate Salemme was terrific in the forward half for Xavs with two majors alongside a standout display from Giulia Sgro-Ralph. Kew look to remain undefeated as they host Old Trinity next weekend who will no doubt be hungry for their first win. Xavs will have a tough task trying to take down the unbeaten Sheagles.
It was an impressive match up at McAlister Oval with West Brunswick coming out victorious over Old Trinity in the VAFA Live Stream Match of the Day. Down by a slight margin in the first quarter, the Westies took charge kicking a remarkable five goals to gain a 22-point lead by half time. The T’s fought back to win the third term with Sally Peers and Lauren Suleiman leading on the field, but that didn’t stop West Brunswick sailing home with a strong finish. Best on ground for a second consecutive week, Laura Holdsworth made some noise with four of the Westies’ six goals.
Marcellin came out firing against SKOB Saints and fought out a thrilling three-point win. The Saints led by seven points at half-time, before an impressive turnaround in the third term saw the Sheagles boot two unanswered goals. SKOB’s Sarah Cameron kicked two goals while Cecilia Baldassarre and Olivia Dikranis booted two of their own for Marcellin. Ellie Mclinden and Bree Doyle were clear standouts for the Saints, who will look to come back for the win against St Mary’s Salesian.
